Aswan is where the Nile is at its most beautiful, with granite islands and feluccas. The temple of Philae was moved stone by stone to Agilkia Island when the dams flooded its original home.
That night I ended up in Gharb Soheil, a Nubian village of brightly painted houses, sitting with locals on the roadside long after dark. It was the most welcoming evening of the trip.
